A worried wife found Narconon Freedom Center through a 1-800#. Her husband said he was ready for treatment, but once there, was unhappy with the Narconon program. He told his wife that he felt like he was being brainwashed by the program's training routines. Staring at people and talking to bags of rocks didn't seem help. Wife did some research that backed-up some of his claims. He wanted out of the program. He claims Narconon refused to refund $150.00 he had on account with the facility, after he informed them of his plans to leave. This caused him to lose his temper. As a result, he was escorted off of the property. Narconon reported him to the police, who were kind enough to give the man directions to the nearest bus station and let him go.
After giving insurance details, patient gets a breakdown by phone and email stating he would get reimbursed at least $4000 back after he paid $15500 up front. After paying and going to program, he later finds out that his insurance has denied his claim for any reimbursement. This person says that the loved one who was placed in Narconon was served spoiled milk and food, that there was no education about drug addiction as was promised, that there was an outbreak of meningitis on the premises, that employees were shooting up, and that personal items were not given back to her when she left. The parent was given 30 minutes to find a hotel, or the 20-year old child would be left at a homeless shelter or in the streets. This complaint contains a copy of a "Release of All Claims" agreement (on page 12 of the PDF) from June 2012 that people who get refunds from Narconon Freedom Center must sign, including the infamous "gag agreement" that Narconon insists on. Even after signing the agreement, it still took them almost 3 months to receive a partial refund. Six months later, the complainant was obtaining a lawyer to seek the remaining part of the refund that they felt was due.

Plaintiff Mr. Teague thought he was going to Narconon Freedom Center but instead he was diverted over to former Narconon Stone Hawk executive Per Wickstrom's other facility, A Forever Recovery (AFR) for 'detox' of abuse of prescribed medications and alcoholism. Soon he was returned to Narconon Freedom Center, where he continued to suffer from severe withdrawal symptoms without any assistance by Narconon.
This former client of Narconon in Albion, Michigan worked at the facility after completing the program, and was tasked with calling other former clients and asking about their recovery. According to this survey respondant, "most people did not answer. the ones that did wanted nothing to do with narconon". Experiences both during and after the program bother this person because of the unprofessional behavior the person witnessed as a client; and, as staff, because some staff were forced to attend Church of Scientology courses, and says, "I never wanted [to] practice Scientology."
This respondent's brother attended Narconon Freedom Center of Albion, Michigan, after her 75-year old mother received a referral from an 800 number which she thought was an independent referral line. The brother had existing medical conditions, but the family was assured that the facility was medically supervised. The medical supervision turned out to be questionable and inappropriate, and the family remains traumatized by the experience.
